Similar to the experience in various counties interested in supporting and encouraging exports and improving the quality of production to increase the competitive capabilities in international markets, Libya has restructured its economic sector formulating a series of strategies and policies and implemented a number of plans and decisions, the most important of which was the establishment of the Export Promotion Centre in accordance with the General Peoples Committee resolution no (128), dated 2006.
The Export Promotion Center aims at increasing the size of the Libyan exports and minimizing the cost of the Libyan export operations to international markets.
The center is a separate entity that has an independent financial liability and is a subsidiary of the General Peoples Committee of Economic, Trade and Investment.
The centre is based in Tripoli, Libya and may establish branches or offices in other cities in Libya or overseas. Such a decision has to be approved by the General Peoples Committee of Economics, Trade and Investment.
Objectives and Responsibilities:
Proposing appropriate procedures and policies to support and promote export.
Encouraging marketing local goods and services for the global markets and offering incentives for local exporters to participate in international exhibitions.
Organizing trade delegations and holding local trade fairs
Providing local exporters with commercial and economic information, and consultation services regarding foreign market.
Collaborating with local and national institutions and organizations working in the field of export promotion
Monitoring and controlling of export regarding quality, standards, specifications, packing and pricing
The centre undertakes the responsibility of supporting the export operations by sustaining exports and granting a percentage of the transporting cost in the following cases
Exporting a new product.
Exporting to new markets.
Providing support to operations that are likely to promote export.
Responsibilities also include:
Facilitating all export procedures in one place and in optimum time through an office located on its premises that uses a newly launched system called the "one – stop – desk" at which representatives of all the relevant establishments offer this service in a timely manner. This office intervenes round the clock to assist exporters in resolving problems and removing obstacles faced during export operations.
